Corn / Maize
Our supply primarily comes from the well-known Brazil origin, but we also source products from other countries around the world.
Corn vs. Maize:
In the United States, the term "corn" is commonly used to refer to what is known internationally as "maize." Both terms are used interchangeably to describe the same crop.
Types of Corn:
1. Genetically Modified (GMO) Corn:
- GMO corn has been genetically altered to exhibit certain traits, such as resistance to pests or herbicides.
- This type of corn is often used in large-scale agricultural production due to its ability to increase yields and reduce the need for pesticides.
- GMO corn is commonly used for animal feed, ethanol production, and various food products.
2. Non-GMO Corn:
- Non-GMO corn refers to traditional corn varieties that have not been genetically modified.
- This type of corn is typically favored by those seeking natural or organic options.
- Non-GMO corn is often used for human consumption, including fresh corn on the cob, cornmeal, and other food products marketed as non-GMO.
Different Uses:
- Animal Feed: Both GMO and non-GMO corn can be used as animal feed, providing essential nutrients for livestock such as cattle, pigs, and poultry.
- Human Consumption: Non-GMO corn is often preferred for direct human consumption, as it is perceived as more natural and less processed. It is commonly used in products like corn chips, tortillas, and canned corn.
